It's 1.5 scenic miles to the Black Mesa trail junction, then another 1.7 to the Boulder Canyon Trail.
Once past the Black Mesa junction, the trail gets so flat and wide, you could drive a low-rider on it.
Garden Valley off to the left.
Once out of the flat, you reach a steep rocky descent (I was actually climbing it).
