Joel Robert Kolbensvik was the son of Robert Wolfe, my mother Mary Agnes’s brother. Bob died in combat during WWII, so all I knew of him was a picture that hung in our house. I did not meet Joel until 2006, but somehow right away, I felt like I had always known him. He made such a strong effort to connect to the Wolfe side that it really reminded me how special it is to have cousins and other extended family.
