The premier riders of the future are often found in the highly competitive 125cc B and 125 Jr (formerly
Schoolboy) classes. In the first 125cc Jr race, Jeremy Ledin lead out of the first turn, but DiBartolo
was quickly past and immediately gapped the field. Shane Tismer stayed relatively close in a gap by
himself. The real race was for third, with Alex Peper, Andrew Rutledge, Mac Rivard, and Cody Stadin
swapping positions throughout the race. At the finish, it was Rivard taking the spot, followed by
Rutledge and Stadin. In the second moto, DiBartolo was gone from the start, with Tismer again in
second. Rivard was in third until Peper and Stadin both got by on the last lap. Overall, it was
DiBartolo (1-1), Tismer (2-2), Rivard (3-5), Stadin (5-4), and Peper (7-3). DiBartolo also owned
the 125cc B class, taking the overall over Tismer and Garret Nelson.
Ledin (257), Trent Herold, and the rest of the 125 Jr. class chase an already-gone Dibartolo.
Many former premier class riders, although the classes weren’t called that at the time, can be found
in 40+ A, once again one of the larger A class fields of the day. In the first moto, multi-time Senior
A champion, Mike Nathe lead early. Current 40+ A points leader, Don Bonnicksen moved up from a bad
start to challenge, taking the lead on the third lap. The lead was short-lived as Bonnicksen went down
on the next lap, leaving Nathe alone in first. Craig Janzig overcame a stall (on a four-stroke!) to
finish second over Tom Peterson, Bonnicksen, and Brian Fischer.
In the second race, Nathe was out front
on the first lap, followed by Janzig, Fischer, and Kevin Schlegel. This time it was Nathe who went down,
with Janzig taking the lead. Bonnicksen was again working up from a bad start and passed Janzig for the
lead at the halfway point. Nathe worked his way back up to third, but was not able to catch the two
leaders. Overall, it was the 2-2 of Jaznig giving him the overall win, followed by Nathe (1-3),
Bonnicksen (4-1), Peterson (3-5), and Fischer (5-4).
The so called "Club Race" sees Bob Zewers (512), Paul Spears (671), Bob Housh (906) Tim Kight (223),
and Mark Brunsberg (831) surrounding 40+ B D23 Champ, Kevin Woizeschke.
As well as all the race proceeds going towards helping Dave with his new life challenges, there was also
a silent draft that raised another $1500. The club was very pleased with people’s generosity and
wished to thank everyone that helped out. The final numbers were not yet calculated as this story went
to press, but the goal of a four-digit check for him was easily met.
While there are a few non-points race left in October, the six-month, 28-race points season had concluded,
and the riders went home, awaiting the final tally for their classes. Many riders were still looking
forward to some fall riding and already thinking about what they could do to prepare for next season.
You know you live pretty far north when the end of September sees healthy riders thinking about the
next year already. Such is life in the tundra.
