With temps not getting past 50 degrees and a rain that was never real hard, but persisted for all but 45 minutes, it was classic early-spring motocross weather. The deep sand track kept soaking up the moisture, but the pits got a bit sloppy as the day went on. Although the track was not

For the first time in the track’s history, the Straight Arrow Enduro Riders had an open practice. This (much drier) Saturday track time was especially welcome, as many of the riders had not been on an outdoor motocross track since last fall. The track held up well, getting knocked flat before Sunday’s practice, but not staying that way for long.

It was more of the same in the 250cc A class. While other showed good form for a while, it was Medek putting in the consistent laps and winning both motos. Nisula (2-4), Johnson (6-3), Dan Holmes (4-5), and Fratzke (3-7) rounded out the top five. It was another clean sweep for Medek in the 30+ A class. Kohl (4-2) was second again, followed by Ross (Hunter) Thompson (7-3), Eric Garvey (6-4), and Brad Bromenschenkel (5-5).

Back to the track, the Senior A class saw the return of multi-time class champion, Jack Parenteau, racing in his first race in four years. Jack holeshot the first moto on his trusty CR 500, but Don Bonnicksen was quickly past and set sail to a convincing win. Behind him, Mike Anderson looked to have second in hand, but Parenteau got by on the last lap. In the second moto, Bonnicksen got out front and rode his KX 450 to another easy win. Anderson withstood Parenteau’s late charge for second overall. Marystown Miniz / HouseBob.com’s Blair Schmidt made virtually no errors in the second moto, on his way to fourth overall.

The only other rider to win more than one class was Alex Peper, sweeping 85cc 12-15 and Supermini. With two more races scheduled in April, this will be a busy month for the track, but as the weather proved at this race, a sandy track is a tough place to rain out.
