The Minnesota Supercross Championship opened up at Scott County Fairgrounds in Jordan with full gates through most of the race order. Jade Dungey proved to be in a class of his own in the Pro class, running away with his heat and the Main.

Mild temps and partly sunny skies were a welcome sight after the last weekend’s non-stop rain showers. Jackets came out as it got dark, but the track stayed tacky all night and most agreed that it was excellent riding weather. Nearly 200 riders in 20 classes signed up to battle on the longest track on the circuit.

The defending and multi-time Pro champion, Brett Ohland, was watching the races from the sidelines, having crashed in practice the day before and injuring his hip and tailbone. He vowed to be back by the next round, but this race would see someone else getting the victory. Jade Dungey was just the guy to do it. Dungey, who has shown impressive speed in previous visits to the track, was out front every lap of the heat and main, but there was quite a bit of action behind him.

Dungey and Pro rookie, Matt Wodtke ran out front early in the heat and held the positions until the end. Ryan Orres was closing in third, followed by Joe Hurt and Trevor Schuster. In the main event, Dungey was again out front from the start and gone. Wodtke, was holding second late, but made a big mistake and seemed to lose his rythym, allowing Orres to move in and eventually pass him. Joe Hurd, had him in sight in fourth, with Eddie Gregory, coming out on top in a multi-rider fight for fifth.

The Vet class provided one of the closest finishes of the night. In the heat, Josh Harens grabbed the holeshot, but Bill Tilford was right there, and the two would be that close for the rest of their racing evening. Tilford lead most of the way and at the finish. Steve Annen rode a solid race for third over Jordan’s own Levi McMains and fat-guy-pants-wearing Tony Lake. In the main event,

Tiford got the holeshot, but had Harens right behind him the whole race. Harens made a last ditch try for the lead on the final lap and just barely nipped Tilford for the win. Behind him, McMains passed Lake on the last lap to get on the podium. Annen and Matt Olund were next in fifth and sixth.

Another multi-time MN SX champion, Dan Grieg, was on hand, this year competing in the 85cc 12-15 class. After a rough heat race, Grieg came back firing. Heat race winner, Tyler Beebe lead early, but Grieg tracked him down and made the pass. Beebe would close, but never quite enough to attempt a pass. Collin Cassem was third, despite a last lap crash, followed by a battling Sean Castle, Greg Mauser, and Phillip Novacek.

Riders winning two classes on the evening were Kyle Graf in 50cc Oil Injected and 50cc Chain, Blake Raskovich in 65cc 10-11 and 85cc 7-11, and Jacob Karg in 15-29 Open and 250cc B. Delano Sports Center, Cities Edge, Hitching Post, Jackpot Junction Casino, Bobcat, Scott USA, Minnesota Cars.com, Race Tools, and Anderson Racing support the series. The next round is scheduled for May 19, again at Jordan. The series stays in Jordan until the end of June, when the Motokazie tour hits the road.
