On a rough track where consistency is often hard to find, Frank Johnson won all four motos he entered, topping the competitive 25+ A and 30+ A classes. Jackson, and nearly all the riders that did well, seemed to go faster as the day went on.

Rain threatened a few times, but never materialized. The humidity and extra effort needed for riding in the sand made it seem warmer than the 70 degree temperature would suggest. This was the third and last race of the spring for the track. Once again, the Straight Arrow Enduro Riders had the track graded smooth to start the day, but it quickly turned into the whoop and berm-filled challenge that riders have come to expect when they race here.

Charlie Forrest charged to 3rd in 25+ A.
Jackson got out front early in the first 25+ A moto but Josh Patzoldt would not let him get too far away. The two separated themselves from Charlie Forrest, who in turn steadily pulled away from the rest of the field. Bernard Seleski finished fourth followed by Michael Moores.

Patzoldt grabbed the holeshot for the second moto, followed closely by Lee Erickson, Jackson, and Forrest. Jackson worked his way into the lead by the end of lap one, but Patzoldt and Erickson stayed close. Patzoldt closed dramatically on the last lap, but was unable to get around. Erickson dropped back slightly, while Forrest was a solid fourth. Jackson’s sweep gave him the overall followed by Patzoldt, Forrest (3-4), Seleski (4-6), and Erickson (8-3). Jackson also won both motos of 30+ A, flogging his Yamaha to a huge lead in the rough second moto.

Some of the best races of the day took place in the B and C classes. In the first 250cc B moto, Jeremy Schweitz took control of the first moto early and held

on for the win. Ryan Nesbitt worked his way up to second followed by Chad Spofford, Cody Breitbach, and Dylan Turner. Meanwhile in the 250cc C moto dropped behind them, Craig Larson and Mark Blood dueled for the win with Larson leading at the checkered. In the second 250cc B race, Schweitz and Nesbitt battled the track and each other, with Nesbitt making to the checkered first, giving him the overall. He was followed by Schweitz (1-2), Breitbach (4-3), and Spofford (3-5). The C race was again a barnburner, as Larson barely held off Blood for the moto and overall win.

No one was able to win three classes, but several others doubled up. Thomas Bosek won the 50cc Chain 7-8 class on a KTM, then jumped on a Kawasaki for the 65cc 7-9 win. Shane Rhode rode a pair of KTMs to victory in 65cc 10-11 and 85cc 7-11, Nathan Rosso took his Yamaha to the top of Schoolboy and 125cc B, Suzuki mounted Justin Collins won the always wild 125cc C and 16-24 C classes, and Gary Smetana rode a Honda to runaway victories in 40+ C and 45+. This was a Quad Premier race and Honda mounted Kyle Goldberg took the overall in both Premier classes, 250 A and Open A. The final race of the year at the track will be October 16th, going back to the late (for western Wisconsin) fall race that had been a Grantsburg tradition for nearly 30 years.
