As the rain-soaked District 23 season continued, Elko was the site of the latest round of the Motokazie Elko-Mankato Dealer Series Championship. Despite full gates and changing track conditions, John Emmeck was able to win three classes, 125cc B, 250cc B, and 16-24 B. In the A classes dropped in front of Emmeck, Brett Ohland was pulling off a triple of his own, winning all six motos of 125cc A, 250cc A, and 16-24 A.

A wet track in the morning and a forecast of rain for later in the day didn’t seem to deter the 430 riders who signed up for a day of racing. Although it was a bit sloppy in the early going, Mother Nature and the hard work of the Motokazie crew contributed to excellent conditions for most of the day. A brief, but hard, shower midway through the second set of motos left the track a bit greasy for a while, but it turned tacky again before the races were over.

The first 16-24 B moto featured an excellent early battle for the lead between Emmeck and Zachary Soucek with Emmeck moving into the lead for good on the last lap. Soucek held off a closing Nick Oja who was followed by Troy Buske and Blake Lawrence. In the second moto, Emmeck, Matt Foels, and Garret Rigelman were close for the first lap, but Emmeck turned it up and ran off with the win. Foels, Rigelman, and Aaron Deer rode close to the end, finishing in that order. Overall, it was Emmeck followed by Soucek (2-5), Oja (3-7), Lawrence (5-6), and Rigelman (9-3).

A race with slightly older riders also proved to be entertaining. In the first 40+ A/B moto, 40+ A points leader, David Spizman, nailed the holeshot over Don Bonnickson, Tim Bernloehr, and Robert Buck. The top three stayed tight until Bonnickson went down hard towards the end of the newly re-configured rythym section. Bernloehr kept the pressure on Spizman for most of the race, but lost him towards the end as they got into lappers. A ways back in third was a nice

battle ending with Buck holding the position over B rider, Brad Carter, and Jonathan Hodap. The second moto saw another Spizman holeshot, but Bernloehr got by towards the end of lap one. Spizman stayed close, making the pass on lap three for the overall and moto win. Bonnickson was a strong third, slightly out of touch with the leaders. Spizman and Bernloehr took the top two overall positions followed by Buck (4-3), Bonnickson (7-3), and Tim Hanson (5-5). Carter finished 6th in the second race, sweeping the 40+ B class.

The C classes are always quite full and provide exciting races for the fans. In the first 25+ C race, Luke Adelmann lead out of turn one, but Sean Thibodeaux was by before lap one was complete. Josh Fischer came through the pack to pressure the leader, but Thibodeaux held him off the whole way. Michael Janovsky was alone in third, followed by Adelmann and Jeff Ryan. The second moto played out much the same way, as Fischer pressured Thibodeaux the entire race, but was unable to make a pass. Janovsky was third in the race and overall. Ryan (5-4) and Jason Vilento (6-5) rounded out the top five overall.

Ohland swept his three classes again. Jeff Doyle was the only rider able to stay close. No other riders were able to win three classes and only two were able to double up. Gavin Kadlec won the 85cc 7-11 and 85cc 9-12 classes and Jesse Kangas topped Supermini and Schoolboy. Delano Sports Center, Leo's South, Cities Edge, Hitching Post, Excel Motor Sports, Scott, MinnesotaCars.com, and Race Tools all provide support for this series. This was the fourth round of a scheduled nine.
