Round 12 of the Motokazie Midwest Supercross Series brought about many quality races. For the true race fan, a 50cc 4-8 Main can be just as exciting as a Pro Main. But, as we’ve come to expect, the drama in the Pro class (on and off the track) can make for some interesting racing, particularly at this venue.

Those who are not familiar with Motokazie’s Supercross series must understand one thing; with forty-one races over six months, most riders must strategically pick and chose which events they will focus on in search of the almighty point. With the most s tops in Jordan, Minnesota, many consider it somewhat of a rendezvous point for the “regulars”, and a Supercross Mecca in it’s own right.

It should be said that the great battles happened from second place on back to eighth, as Prior Lake’s, Brett Ohland checked out seemingly before the gate even dropped.

Chaska’s own, Joe Hurd grabbed second place in the heat race and held on to it, but the rest of the pack took turns trying to overthrow him. First, it was Joey Mueller out of Elko, Minnesota. He negotiated several different lines over the course of a c ouple of laps to make things interesting, but could not quite make the pass. This seemed to discourage Mueller as he fell off the pace just a bit to give way to the next contestant. Jeff Doyle.

Doyle, residing in Shoreview, looked to have the best chance. He made up time like a morning commuter late for work, but couldn’t make the pass. Hurd shut the door every time Doyle made a move. His last move was a costly one, as Doyle found himself an d his bike upside down with an eighth place to boot.

With Doyle out, it was Tony Traxlers’ turn. He too, had multiple opportunities, but Hurd would fend him off. Traxler, out of Victoria, Minnesota, settled for third with another Prior Lake resident in Eddie Gregory passing Mueller for fourth.

The Main was over before it started, as Ohland took off and didn’t look back, which leaves us discussing the battle for everything but first.

A pile up in the first turn of the first lap left several riders out of commission including Hurd, Tyler Nesse and Tim Myre. This gave the crowd two things to watch: The battle for second between Traxler and Doyle, and just how unbelievably fast Brett Ohland is.

From there on out, it was clear cut as to who would finish where. Mueller improved on his qualifier to finish fourth overall. Jeff Doyle, finishing third, couldn’t quite put it together as Tony Traxler made fewer mistakes on his way to a second. Ohland , despite his massive lead, never slowed his pace on the way to an easy victory.

With only two races remaining at this particular venue for 2003, racers are running out of opportunities to exorcise their grudges and prove who really is king of Jordan Supercross. Mark July 11th on your calendars, as we make our way back to Jordan to find out.
