Edward Frances Wolfe was born April 7, 1918 in Miles City Montana. When still a small child, the family moved to Montevideo, Minnesota. Shortly after graduating high school, he moved to Portland, Oregon and lived in that area the rest of his life. He was in the Army, serving in Europe during WWII.

He married Elizabeth Broberg and had 3 children, Leroy, Barbara, and Michael (Chris). He later remarried to Wanda, who had 2 school-age children, Judy and Sandy. Ed passed away January 30th, 2001 from complications after surgery.

Ed was the oldest of my mom’s brothers and one who held a special place for me because of his lifelong passion for motorcycles. He lived in the Portland area all his adult life. As a kid, we didn’t see him that often, so I don’t have very many memories to draw on. He did watch me ride around in the dirt in the late 80s when visiting Minnesota.

My father, wife, sister, and I visited him for a few days in 1997, where he gave us a tour of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge.

Ed gave this to me, probably somewhere in the late 80s. This ashtray was a trophy from a sport they called Mud Scrambles. The motorcyclist part of it as quite heavy and appears to be cast. Since he was a machinist and part of clubs that put on events, I thought he may have made this, but some people on Facebook had the same trophy, usually from a father or grandfather. Based on those conversations, I dated this somewhere in the late 40s to early 50s.

This is the only photo I have so far of one of his motorcycles. This picture was likely taken in the early 60s but the Triumph looks to be from the 50s. All my cousins being in the photo makes this one even more special.
